In 2010 Robert Cooke was a seasoned technology architect with extensive experience at some of Wall Street's biggest names. There he observed that conditions within those institutions incentivized short term solutions that were difficult to maintain, especially as developers migrated across firms. The resulting deployments needed to be continually rebuilt, were expensive to maintain, and lacked operational instrumentation. There had to be a better way.

So he took to writing a full-stack platform that would address the core causes of software malpractice by drastically reducing development time, minimizing maintenance costs, and providing unfailing uptime, scalability, and performance. This fast financial framework would be the forge to build applications that would change the world, so he called it 3forge. Cooke went back to the coding board on virtually every aspect of the development stack: he hand-crafted a proprietary database for historical data and real-time data, an extensive set of messaging adapters to bring data into them, and a complex event processing engine to make sense of them. He also built a web server to be able to stream immense amounts of data to web browsers, and a powerful front-end layer with highly-scalable visualizations for users to interact with apps.

And it worked, and soon some of the most demanding software users in the world began using it. Morgan Stanley began monitoring its global order flows with 3forge in 2014 and the platform has continuously been in production, and scaled up with volumes and asset classes ever since.
